An Invitational Research Consultation on the theme of educational tasks for the new millennium was held last April at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City. The Consultation was sponsored by the Center for the Study of the Spiritual Foundations of Education at Teachers College, with the cooperation of the Waldorf Education Research Institute at Sunbridge College, and the Alliance for Childhood, a partnership of medical personnel, parents, social workers, and other advocates for children.
The Consultation was intended to bring together Waldorf educators and researchers with others from the wider educational and cultural community. In line with this intention, innovative thinkers from a spectrum of related professional fields attended. The participants explored key cultural issues relating to education, especially those with implications for children. Strategies of change were considered.
Important insights emerged on a number of critical issues now facing humanity, ranging from the treatment and education of children, to related issues of ecology, nutrition, media, and others. It is our hope that materials from the Consultation will be available for publication in the January, 2001 issue of the Research Bulletin, as well as a report on the activities of the Alliance for Childhood.
